Throughout my career as a photographer, I’ve always looked for ways to put good into the universe. Now that I’m working with businesses and brands, I get to do this by identifying new small businesses and providing them with strategic brand photos to help them get started. When I came across Julie Woehler of Nurtured Soul Therapy, a perinatal therapist serving mothers in Indiana, I knew I’d found my philanthropic focus for this year.
Ever since becoming a mother, I’ve been a huge advocate for maternal mental health. Finding out that Julie was not only a maternal mental health specialist in Indiana but also launching her own virtual practice was so exciting. I truly believe mothers are an underserved population—especially when it comes to mental health. I connected with Julie on Instagram, and the rest is history.
Julie Woehler, LCSW, is a perinatal therapist and the founder of Nurtured Soul Therapy, a virtual practice serving mothers and families across Indiana. She specializes in maternal mental health, offering support through fertility struggles, pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. Her work is deeply rooted in both professional expertise and personal experience with birth trauma, anxiety, and depression. Julie provides compassionate, affirming care that helps clients feel seen, supported, and empowered. She’s on a mission to make therapy more accessible for moms in one of life’s most transformative seasons.
Julie’s perinatal therapist brand photos needed to feel grounded, welcoming, and aligned with her virtual therapy services. So we got strategic! After reviewing her questionnaire and brand assessment, plus doing a little bit of research on maternal mental health in Indiana, I met Julie for her session planning meeting. We talked about all the angles she might want to post from and made an extensive list of poses, composition ideas, and props we’d need for the session. We prioritized photos that captured a variety of emotions, plus Julie’s favorite coping mechanisms (hello dance breaks!!!), and created connections to her ideal clients–Eli had his modeling debut so we could show moments of motherhood in Julie’s images!
Honestly…how can I even pick?! I love the photo of Julie holding her rainbow rings because it speaks to her inclusivity, loving heart, endless but realistic optimism, and her own identities. The ones of her where you can see little baby feet next to a mug of coffee and a computer? Quintessential working mom vibes! All the dance break moments? Perfection! But I truly think my favorite moment of the session was our real talk about how damn hard motherhood is and how important it is to have support through all the challenges.
This session was deeply personal. As a mother, I know how isolating and overwhelming the perinatal period can be, and I’m passionate about supporting maternal mental health in any way I can. Helping providers like Julie get visible, build trust, and grow their reach means more moms get the care they need. Photography has the power to bridge that gap—to make a therapist feel relatable, to help a mom feel seen, and to spark a connection before any words are exchanged. Supporting a mission like Julie’s through intentional, strategic brand imagery is exactly why I do this work.
Working with Julie wasn’t just a photoshoot—it was an opportunity to support a fellow mom, a mental health advocate, and a deeply needed resource for families in Indiana.
If you’re a heart-centered business owner, and you want brand photos that feel aligned, joyful, and true to your mission, I’d love to connect.
