When we moved back to Indiana I was walking around downtown and I saw the most fabulous window art. I thought “wow, I wonder if that artist needs brand photos because that would be so fun”

But I was super pregnant at the time and had zero motivation to do any research or attempt to find clients. So I went about my life, had a baby, pivoted my business, you know, the basics…

Then I hopped back into business this spring and crossed paths with Natalie of Lafayette Lettering on Instagram! Businesses she had done window lettering and designs for had shared her work and I was finally able to connect with her! I was so excited to learn that she does more than window art! Hand Lettering + Window Art in Lafayette, IN

If you walk around downtown Lafayette, chances are you’ll stumble across at least one of Natalie’s designs! From Flourish Studio and Classroom to Prepped Nutrition to Flora Candle Co, Natalie has left her mark all over downtown.

In addition to her fun and creative window paintings in downtown Lafayette, Natalie also offers hand-lettered cards and stationary, which is what we focused on for this part of the brand photos with Lafayette Lettering.

Planning Brand Photos for an Artist

Natalie is truly a multi-talented artist. From hand-lettered cards to custom-designed window murals, she does it all. So how in the world do you capture all that in one session? Well…you don’t… We intentionally broke Natalie’s session into two parts: in-home to showcase her lettering and design process plus on-the-job to highlight her painting a window mural in Lafayette.

Natalie wanted a balance of creative + fun headshots, plus behind-the-scenes images, with a little sprinkle of work-from-home mom life on top. We selected Natalie’s home office as the photo location because it is where she does all her creative dreaming, plus it was hand-painted by her! And we made sure photos were happening during her kiddo’s wake window to make sure she could be included in a few!

Brand photos with Lafayette Lettering required a LOT of props. Natalie gathered samples of her work, all her writing and drawing implements, plus mood board items like paint swatches and inspo photos. This allowed us to build a cohesive collection of images that showcased her entire process from concepts on an iPad to the final hand-lettered product.

Giving Natalie a dedicated time and space to show off all the incredible creative work that she’s done while also showing off her dynamic and sweet personality was so special.
