A couple weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of the slow season (for both myself and Noelle since we primarily service the wedding industry) and head to Noelle’s home studio for a private makeup lesson for myself! I set up my camera in the corner and used my Bluetooth remote to document my experience on camera for you all so I could share it here on the blog. Noelle and I are good friends, so I definitely got distracted with chatting and learning and forgot to take photos throughout the whole makeup lesson, but I managed to get a few before I forgot that half of the point in scheduling my private lesson was so I could share it with all you fabulous brides and brides-to-be.
Learn What Makeup to Use AND How to Apply Your Makeup with a Private Makeup Lesson
Private lessons are completely tailored to your interests, questions, and skill set. When you book a lesson, Nicole will ask if you have a goal in mind. I was actually not expecting that at all when she asked me, so I initially told her that my goal for my makeup lesson was to learn “all the things” - only a slightly unrealistic goal! After I thought about it a bit, I decided that I wanted Noelle’s help in creating a super simple every day makeup look that reflected my brand.
When I got to Noelle’s studio, I handed her my giant bag of makeup stuff that had mostly been collecting dust. I didn’t know what half the brushes were supposed to be used for and I had no idea that some of my makeup should’ve been disposed of long ago (oops…sorry skin!). Noelle taught me what tools I did and didn’t need, cleaned all of my brushes (just wait til she drops that gem on you), and put a hazard label on my 8 year old eyeshadow palette.
Once my products were sorted, Noelle started teaching me about taking care of my skin and pointing out the best ways to highlight my features - I never considered myself to be a person with nice cheekbones until after I sat in Noelle’s chair a couple times. She has a way of showing you all the beautiful things you cannot see about yourself with every word she says.
A Plethora of Makeup Knowledge and Experience from Blush757
During the lesson, Noelle would demonstrate the application technique on one side of my face, then she’d guide me while I practiced applying the same technique to the other side. As we moved from feature to feature, Noelle explained how to best highlight each one with various products and brush movements - sweeping versus pressing and so much more.
To help you remember everything, Noelle provides a “face sheet” - a diagram of a face with space for notes - and guides you as you write down everything you just learned. This way you can go home with a diagram that specifically shows you where to place each product, how to use your brushes to apply the product, what product to use, and any other tidbits you found helpful throughout the makeup lesson. I could have filled three face sheets with the amount of skin and makeup knowledge Noelle shared with me in my two-hours of learning!
As soon as I got home from my lesson, I immediately started shopping for all the products I loved from the lesson (although Noelle does provide you with some samples to tide you over until you can order what you like). When all my products arrived I couldn’t wait to put my new knowledge into practice and to show Noelle how much she taught me - I even sent her a picture of my first full makeup application and she gave me some additional tips and tricks so I could nail it in the future!
