Why a Wedding Coordinator Should be the First Vendor You Book

I get it. Truly. As someone who thought "I can do all of this myself, why pay someone to do it?" I can promise you that I understand your perspective when it comes to hiring a coordinator. It's just a big party, right? I've planned events before, I can do it again. When it comes to weddings hiring a planner or coordinator is a always good idea, no matter how incredible your planning skills are! Not only do I encourage all my couples to book one, but I actually encourage couples to book a coordinator BEFORE they book me! I sat down with Ashton, owner of Beautiful Dawn Events, to chat with her about why hiring a wedding coordinator should be one of the first steps you take for your big day, and she shared FIVE reasons why:

Why a wedding coordinator should be the first vendor you hire Reason #1

They are on your side

When you hire a wedding coordinator, you instantly have someone who can go to bat for you in any situation. You may come across a vendor or two who doesn't seem to have your best interest at heart, which is fair because they've probably invested so much into their business, but this is your day and it should be everything you've dreamed. Hiring a coordinator ensures just that.

With every vendor conversation, every decision, and every moment of your wedding day, you can trust that your coordinator is there to make you and your wedding day shine. By bringing a coordinator to your team, any time you need a break or advice or help discerning a line in a contract, they are there to carry the load, share their thoughts, and provide their wisdom. Planning a wedding can be a lonely and stressful endeavor, but when you hire a coordinator you've always got a listening ear!

They know the vendors and venues

Wedding coordinators have been around the block a time or two. They've been to dozens of venues, met so many business owners and staff, and probably have a story or two to tell about each. They will be able to tell you which teams will be more hands-on, if a venue will flow with the timeline you want for your day, and so many other things that would never cross your mind.

Coordinators have the wisdom, expertise, and experience that comes from being in an industry for many years. You wouldn't expect an employee on their first day to know everything about their job, so there's no reason to put the same pressure on yourself in the wedding industry!

They have behind-the-scenes knowledge

This one goes hand-in-hand with reason #2. Because of their industry knowledge and experience, coordinators are uniquely positioned to have behind-the-scenes information that vendors wouldn't normally advertise to clients. Maybe there's a venue that can be convinced to add some special furniture to your booking. Or maybe a vendor looks really great online but there are actually some red flags to be aware of. Or even green flags that make them really incredible to work with! A coordinator will have the right eye and ear to let you know if there is anything (good or bad) to watch out for as you're making wedding decisions.

they help you keep a consistent style

When Ashton and I discussed this blog post, one of our biggest overlapping points was that a coordinator can help you keep a consistent style. I hate breaking it to couples who have booked dark, dramatic spaces that they won't get light and airy photos, even if they hire me. I do my best, but there's only so much I can do with dark wood walls. A wedding coordinator will discuss your vision with you in-depth and suggest vendors who align perfectly with what you're envisioning.

They are budget savvy

Wedding budgets are a hot topic these days - many couples are opting for more affordable alternatives and a coordinator can be a budget magician for you. Speaking from my experience planning a styled shoot with Ashton, she was able to find incredible deals and discounts that made our vision come to life without absolutely destroying our budget.

When every dollar counts, you can make each cent go a little further by investing in a wedding coordinator because they'll know how to save you some big bucks on florals, venues, and so much more.
